I know, poetic license, but you'd think a Nevada Native would have gotten it right. Could have been either the Smith Valley or Mason Valley Plain (my favorite). Just sayin'.

Condensed from Wikipedia: The West Walker River originates in Mono County, CA and flows north through a canyon (the route for U.S.395, then into Antelope Valley, enters Nevada in Douglas County and turns northeast through Hoye Canyon into Lyon County, then across the Smith Valley, past Smith, and finally into the Mason Valley where it joins the East Walker

The East Walker River also begins in Mono County, California in Bridgeport Valley, flows northeast into Nevada in Lyon County and flows north to its confluence with the West Walker.

Below the forks, the Walker River flows through Mason Valley, past Yerington, into central Lyon County and eventually empties into Walker Lake.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04487476291107382065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1875980412212682099.post-17855934984653326532016-06-23T20:03:45.103-07:002016-06-23T20:03:45.103-07:00My thanks to Nikki Brock and lotf ali for the kind...My thanks to Nikki Brock and lotf ali for the kind comments and the link to that excellent Vermont Public Radio report, one that very kindly includes a hyperlink to this article and which I will both guess and hope brought lotf ali here. Steve Gillette was THE finger picker I really loved to watch back in the 60s in the SoCal coffee houses. His flatpick-based style was something I never could master. Nonetheless, I worked out his guitar part, and I've taken great pleasure playing/singing it for nearly 50 years now.

I was a freshman at Fullerton JC in '65 and fell in with the evil folk purveyors frequenting the Paradox, Orange County's inland coffee house. I say evil because those rich and rewarding times and friendships deep-sixed my academics (pre-forestry) and my student deferment, the value of which was transparent in the face of those good times.

Speaking of Paradox players... a benefit concert featuring a few of that club's (and Sunny Hills HS's) notables will take place on Feb 27th at the La Mirada Theater for the Performing Arts. The bill includes Jackson Browne (w/ band) and his long-time friends Steve Noonan, Greg Copeland and Greg Leisz... see http://www.jacksonbrowne.com/news/ for details. It looks to be an entertaining and memorable evening!

Thanks, again, for taking the time to put this terrific post together! - TonyTony Duquehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16569899685701728455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1875980412212682099.post-35727119476639415152012-11-27T00:13:47.015-08:002012-11-27T00:13:47.015-08:00Thanks for the cultural notes on a modern folk son...Thanks for the cultural notes on a modern folk song.

You should locate and upload the version performed by The Mill Run Dulcimer Band who played for years at the Colvin Run Mill in Great Falls, VA. It's on the album "Sunday at the Mill," their first of of an eventual 11 they released. SEE: http://appalachiandulcimers.com/mrdb.htm

The recording/engineering quality on the earlier albums is less than satisfactory, but the musicianship is tops and the vocals are rich and full, with a bit of southern-ness, harmony, and lonesomeness.

The band featured the Appalachian (or mountain) dulcimer (usually two at a time), autoharp, guitar, upright bass, banjo, and limberjack. The dulcimers used were made by Keith Young (dec. Feb 2012) of Annandale, VA. His dulcimers and autoharps are exceptionally well made and among the best sounding instruments. Though Keith played dulcimer for fun, he usually played bass for performances and studio sessions.Play MO Banjohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07373504946841847324noreply@blogger.com
