The melancholy tone of "Greensleeves," a lost love ballad, an its morphing into "What Child Is This?" was something I noted and did a long essay about as an undergrad in a Renaissance poetry class. The nexus of birth and crucifixion and Advent is something that I have explored in a number of articles, though not in as great depth as your fine link does because my focus is on the music.
